Official: Chelsea Sign Goalkeeper Ross Turnbull On Free Transfer

Chelsea have reinforced their goalkeeping line-up today, signing 24-year-old glovesman Ross Turnbull on a four-year contract. The highly-rated young player's contact with Middlesbrough had expired, and he opted to move south rather than sign a new deal at the Riverside.

Born in Bishop Auckland, Turnbull is a former England youth international who rose through the ranks at Boro, making his first team debut in May 2006 against Bolton Wanderers.

He has made 29 senior appearances for Boro, coupled with the 67 he has made on loan at Darlington, Bradford City, Barnsley and Crewe Alexandra, and was part of the Middlesbrough youth team that lost to Manchester United in the FA Youth Cup final of 2003.

He joins Petr Chech and Hilario at the club, with the latter having signed a new deal with the Blues today, that will keep the 33-year-old at the club until 2011.
